Good afternoon. John and showed great here in the studio glad to be here today man they after Saint Patrick's Day opened everybody's gone okay. And texting intact check sit over here doing one last message before we and get things rolling that you believe it or not this is actually. And I'm trying to get something done for the call up OK so you know. Among I'm a guy your helper guy who does things John K well we appreciate make things happen. Oh man. As an anniversary. Has come up for. A family. The Greenville police department and are just that the city of green for the community. That is. Our lovely. You know city yet banks angering dale. And today marks the one year anniversary of the the line of duty death of officer Alan Jacobs which is a an event that. Shook up a lot of people. In this community across the state and from the turnout. His funeral service I mean people from. All over the country. Even some officers from other countries attended. And now so we're gonna start our show today talking. About this the the impact avid the ripple effects now a year out from that sad day here in Greenville. But the first thing we're gonna do in honor of this one year anniversary of the line of duty death of officer Alan Jacobs is to observe a moment of silence. Now a lot. A lot changed for me. Now last year and again not to make this. The self centered thing about admit the the impact that say a lot that. Having done this show for a couple years now and have no. And people. Who serve is a law enforcement officers. But having done this show more more closely with my buddy here chuck Porter. Two was a law enforcement officer. The impact. Of of that event was more significant to me then. What it had ever been before and stopping by the memorial player with his his unit that was part dammit the bottom of the hill along stone avenue and and going there and seeing it. The the impact the loss of one good man or woman. Really. Affects us all because it's not only the Jacobs family who we ask that she keep them in in your thoughts and prayers as anybody that's ever had a traumatic loss. A note there's no easy day things just get a little easier but there anniversaries and especially the first anniversaries. Are always the toughest. So we ask that you would keep the Jacobs family in your thoughts in your prayers and those officers that work closely with him. Who are. You know Disco onto them endure and hopefully you know get through this. One year anniversary. Is part of their grieving and recovery process that. You know just as a community the impact the outpouring of the emotion of generosity. I I think was incredible as. A citizen and resident here as somebody who has public forum like we do here with a salute to service show to CD. The outpouring of emotion the outpouring of that support in the forms of cards and letters the out pouring of of offers to assist the Jacobs family things you know what professional services coming in dental offices and other. A professional. Groups that you know medical in otherwise offering you know to do things to to help that family. Sustaining them and more of a a physical way. There but certainly. Those those outpour means of of support and and kindness have an emotional effect on. Well not just the Stanley but the people that day. They'd get involved and I'll never forget one of the gestures siren call from years ago having you know lost my brother. To suicide and struggling going through that that guy a guy walked up to me one day. And I was talk human and another co worker about. The first weekend coming up that my wife and daughters were going to be weighs in I was gonna be kind of air along. Leftists do by myself and my own thoughts they're at at the house. And I just was really worried about what am I gonna do to occupy my mind and a guy came up didn't say a word just put his hand on my shoulder. And gave it a little squeeze. And walked off and in just the impact of that and thinking about how the people. That got involved. With the the the outpouring. Support in and emotion and and goodwill to this faintly. And best that moved me. Tremendous. You know it doesn't it doesn't take much. In the way of kind acts and it doesn't have to be even an overt kind acting can be something innocent lives is what you experienced in. I can remember. Last year Stan announced that memorial. Is Stoner is there a daily seeing I was with a couple guys that I worked with the sheriff's office and you know we were. Kind of reflecting on things while we were standing there in this this lady walked up and said you know I had won which no I'm sorry for your loss. I mean that she and OS from Adam's house cat yeah. And she didn't know that I am you know retire here you know no longer. An active duty again be the way to say it but. She felt. Compelled to say that in it was it was heartfelt for. And it's I mean those are. Encouraging things to hear and in into the experience and an. You know last year when when this happened. And never I. I told myself after the first time I went through it did you know that's funny thing ever want to experience again unfortunately. You know he's been long enough doing the job done. You do. I'm just just the nature of the beast. But I know firsthand what the gadgets grumble police department word we're going through what they were dealing with them. The unfortunate part is you're really. Nothing you can say or do. It's going to. Turn right the wrong. You know what I'm saying yeah I mean no matter no matter how kind gesture. You still got you've still got that void. East you've still got the void you still you still have the pain and the hurt it and thanks again three I mean that's. In and it's trite as it sounds. I can't say it's it's true. That in some some of the tragic losses that I've had that share with you guys here on the show before you know losing. Brother and a brother and on both to suicide. Very shocking and tragic events. To have to go through bit. You get through it a little bit. At first. Minute by minute then our our day to day in and week to week that eventually time. I heard really never goes away that hole shall always in your heart bit bit. The passing of time and enough water will flow under the bridge that you do begin to accept. That life must go along absolute and ended and indeed it does. Now tell you one of the one of the most difficult things to think one of the most prolific moments. In my life. Was the first troll call back to work after we lost one of our guys it was on my platoon him. And you know Sonoma in the mustering the sheriff's office where we met every day before word when there was station after night shift and he said no you don't have assigned seats but everybody kinda sits in the Seattle plays everyday towards an area and in looking up and in CN. His seat and the and in knowing you know he's not only. Got sick he's not working the desk. He's just not going to be there. And that it I mean. It's a hard pill to swallow. But not like you said you learned. You accepted me move on them and and I guess if if I took anything away from those experiences. It's that I wanna live. Every day worthy of the sacrifice that those people made for me. They Dayton they gave up there are so I didn't have to give up mine you know somebody if that are on that day in that place in that hour. Was gonna die. There's no two ways about that as just the way the world works. And they stepped up. And for lack of a better word sacrifice themselves. On that day in that place in that hour so the somebody else didn't have to. Well in as we. Like teach a course share promote things that are going on here in the community got a message from a listener. That morning side Baptist Church this morning side Baptist Church at 1115. And of course your mom had suggested to you yeah. That we're trying to piece together but we need your help. And that is were wanting to put together a show where it is the spy houses. Of law enforcement officers of paramedics firefighters EMTs. Active duty. Military and we know that's kind of going to be may be at a thin market here very active duty in this area Mitt. Maybe year the the spouse of a you some by this just come off active duty or was career military. Able you know war and were wanting to put together a show where we have. The stories in the perspective. Of the other half of the equation. Brought out they're just does stir some good conversation. And provoke thought on on the part of the listeners out there so that's something now we're looking towards getting together so if you are interested in being part of that or know somebody who might be. You can since their information. Get to the 16 read a BO RD web site their show information iron or contact email or. Messages on FaceBook FaceBook dot com slash W a RD. Salute service. That. That is truly going to be interesting there's a John and I are discussed in this for the show and and you know we few weeks ago we did the the the case of the it deputy Porter in the case of the this and the house. You know if you don't hate it when you're in the middle of doing these things is a police officer is you know military or whatever you don't think about it you think about the task at hand you know you're doing the job. My wife is sitting at home. Watching TV year you know ten and to the children murdered you know think Kirsten my name or whatever she does when not if there. And here I am. It is stupid as all get out flounder around through an empty house with a corpse and it somebody's called 911 from. All countries so often a little political firestorm. Yeah and she's got no idea yeah and I'm thinking to myself now what is she. If she if she knew. And though the hard part is her imagination has to be run in wild fish got no idea what I'm doing yet. So yeah I think I think this is going to be a good opportunity to get some good perspective. Contrary. And and and to know what. What the spouses they can and you know husbands wives even the kids. You know your mom or dad a cop and how does that impact your life yet it's man that's going to be interesting. And we need your help out there to pull that one off. Well get in touch winners they'll do what we come back Second Amendment protection act for veterans man this has been in the news lately has apparently you know. Fewest in the media we're gonna get crazy people guidance for just gonna have her out that's all there is I guess what we did what we do sell a stay tuned for that slid service. 1063 WORD wood chuck and John. We'll be right back. I. Welcome back it's a salute to service John Turner check Porter getting. On. With the normal stuff now. 1803471063. That is the Eagles told free advantage talk line common sense retirement planning attacks on if you got some say. But don't wanna go on the air with us and we don't know why that would be were really not it's. It pink and people but it got if you want it X got several techsters who won't text is that refused in the moment well they wanna argue even when we text them back. Yeah because we we we can do that you know the technology exists and if you got some say in your little shy Nolan on wireless. Common sense retirement planning tax on 71307. All right. If you watch the news much here and listen and talk radio much we hope you spend more time listening talk radio than watching television he and you have heard some Democrats. People like Elizabeth antsy at about. Connecticut. You would think. That what congress is trying to do is Jess put firearms in the hands of crazy group people yes crazy person yeah going to. This is gonna give him the Republicans want to give guns making it easier for crazy people. To get gun wasn't here then tell you would think that they're just gonna go to their house and and give them you know like. Ran an automatic right exactly exactly or there is. You know. Vans full of bring end. Newt will not shiny bit brand new a news clocks yeah and in that are just were awaiting the Republicans are waiting for the bill to pass and they can go around and and hand out firearm you Daniels is definitely getting goes gun and you get a goes on everybody gets it goes guy and I'll God's shouldn't get a guy who's. But what this is actually about. Bill HRE 1181. Veterans. Second Amendment protection act. What this bill is about it's about protecting. The Second Amendment Rights. Of our veterans. Him. Or whatever the reason might be whether. Might p.'s. Some team. From. An injury he. Or natural aging or just the confusion of having to deal sometimes with your. Modern day 84 finances and VA benefits and things like that bureaucracy that is as well yeah yeah yeah it will I think something else that star yeah yeah that game ease the word. If the VA he found out you were using a a counselor a financial advisor a somebody operating campus like Colin. In addition few this year he roll something that's somebody's looking out for your interest with your finances in your VA benefits off. Your copy here incompetent so were going to send your name over to the FBI not to get on the the knicks system. And air for you can't go purchase a firearm and in fact did some rulings may take place injured leaned. The incompetent enough that if you have. Firearms may be an old fouling peace shotgun something you know bolt action in a deer rifles some like that that those should be taking taken away from noon. Now what's interesting about this. Is just actually this this week we had. Some email communication with somebody that that you know we've been. Top and a lot about the veterans choice program. And how all you know some veterans are using that to get medical assistance and cared he's coming got a situation going on well with that with some surgery that he had done. But he is using a advisor. To donate LB Nacchio navigate this process so. Mom. Is he at risk if this bill doesn't pass aren't a 'cause once our last east knee surgery or something that he's got such a a counselor and advisors somebody working in a capacity to help him navigate this. Would he therefore be caught up in this bureaucratic mess of being deemed. Incompetent. In the air for it should be referred to the knicks a list well I think somewhere on the order of was 85 and 90% I'm not behind for 90% of the referrals. To the FBI for the nexus the Fuzzy element of that national. All in your that cop but it's. Now they're eight national if you ask me I can't pay to have an all time. So it's it's the it's a background check is a background check system is an easy one to what a name and what a time to have but efficiency right now and but that 90% of the referrals to the FBI to go in that database come from the the end came from the VA. And so you've. Again just because somebody may be in and not okay we gotta be careful here I'm not trying to be eight gist. Or an able lists and don't don't get triggered about what I'm about to say. But if you're somebody out there let's say in year. Her 68723. Four years old whatever. And you are you still get your wits about you enough in Europe the save and you know Vietnam vet that the as some things then you're no good an on line mate you're just no gauge and get it online banking I checked my phone stuff. And doing some things with the VA just really edgy confused as you were never real good with. In a paperwork and bureaucracy steps so you have somebody to assist you with baton. But I do you're in danger of being. Referred. To the FBI to be added to the you know do not sell list. Yes and so what this bill is aiming to do and thanks to some people with a little bit common sense is not often we praise politicians. But. The guy who is pushing this through representative. Along with a lot of other people wrapped Phil wrote that's ROE Phil rove Republican at a Tennessee's chairman of that. House committee on veterans affairs. What they're trying to do is make this so that. You could still beat anybody could still be deemed incompetent. And in need of some assistance and therefore have some restrictions placed on the but this needs to go move before a judge. This does not need to be steps a a bureaucrat a clerk within the VA system. Referring you to the FBI just because you've got somebody assisting you with your finances and and keeping your VA staff squared away. Brett what they're doing right now in essence is in putting the burden of proof. On. The defendant yes Kate in Indiana for lack of a better. Phrased. So you and essence. Lose your rights and in then have to prove to the government that they are wrong UN DU war in fact capable or. Confident enough to to handle your own affairs and in regards to firearms and it's an. Slowly the reverse of due process it is it. Argument you know with Jack common sense gun control that we heard so much about still days. It's like well you know where's the due process that that became a big and valid argument my. That was presented by a lot of people will the same thing applies here. To veterans. You know just because you may need some guidance and some help and and in this day and time this content does those things are who doesn't need some guy. And it's. We're and where does one cross that line of idea meeting yeah I need some guidance and ate like this. Gentlemen that's been in touch with the heat he needs some help navigating this convoluted process on the choice program. Importing U where's it this is suddenly had a danger that oh absolutely hear you that we need to refer this how was in a different note due process he loses his Second Amendment right how is it. I mean look what Eliza why yeah different than the other action that college did not be referred to know exactly. When we come back we've got Randy weight on the line our hair lady waiting to talk to my own reality that and we'll we'll carry on this conversation and general Mattison in climate change if include assert this one a 63 Debbie Doherty check in John we'll be right back in until we. I it's my favorite injury. Is this are my favorite intra is that general Mattis. Chaos on the line. The Rolling Stones and some generation kill for you out there my god that's general Mattis what is he doing here. One of the greatest scenes in generation kill yes Matty should manage shows up. Welcome back salute to service John Turner cheque order here you are listening to 163 WORD. The F states talk station and patiently hanging on to talk about some. VA related issues Randy. Randy welcome to the show. And John they joke. Understand goat tripped at a beauty. It's real lists past Monday. And let them form and that old feel would use. The CDC so worried about the days yeah. They're going to start cutting back drastically on pain medication use these huge commitment. And I go out and you've got your hey I'm gonna yeah yeah. You. Know you're restricted in or I medications actually did some. Turn it is playing. Classes and all of a war. They manage pain pain management stuff if Randy it's not just veterans either man and my mother dealing with this thing right now going through her her cancer treatment the the doctor. Are. Bashful I guess to write anything hoping you're related. It and it is. I don't I don't mean to sound like an apology after Ernie thing that there there is a bad hole the only problem. As it relates to dependency into heroin abuse in and you know there's a massive number of people right now that are that are abusing these things. In it and also unfortunately is affecting the people like you day. Surely depend really need to ask yeah. Now as one of those ripple effects where we've had the especially within the VA and I'm sure it's not just VA healthcare system that other civilians. Institution as well. Where it's that OP always abuse and theft yet from staff that has become a huge problem and so you know their restricting it and that way than through part of the regulations that are affecting health care industry overall. And of course like you're talking about Randy with the VA being able to actually. Getting yourself. You know as a as a patient and it's. What it is perhaps landing Howard when you Harry you've the only. The big thing is some heat they get the word out to the other veteran that listening in that if I have movement into the VA and place. The last strip all month so they go back up there for another appointment. And I got a new doctor and it stemmed from her medication used to be reviewed. The amount will get probably not have been there pain medications renewed got a lot of these new doctor hardly been even the document as at that direction whatsoever. And now. You know if I can understand that vote partially and I. I English trio. Of abuse or something like the cup but governor. I meditation despair but that's quite bluntly. Katie you know look at everybody if I don't have a pain medication. Are there not be laid. Alternatives deed that they've offered you another word are they giving you an alternative to know Buehrle started to help you longer they just telling you you're out of luck. Normal they wanted it to him and they say that we are ahead expense certain group and the assessment for a partner. And that for durable wouldn't do any good and they get they estimate that he's really that different non don't really negative Burton. Oklahoma still pepper girl. It they get the nervous must. They have been matched that they're actually sent nets mum my main reason love have to take pain medications messed. Pictured with playing the polls going through pain management plane management as. What I'll call my problem Collison went exacerbated. It is just that that would make it that urban married they did something to it and make K state systematic system that the label it. And you know when I can't believe something like get too risky to bomb on the only 61 man. All that and I'm in pretty good deal further than I am a black Mondays. But. It will be if they want perhaps not. Michael Steele would've meant a whole lot better outlook outlook build from the surgery until I had started going to this alternative. Pain management stuff then that's when they mess me up with a different girl. And I wonderful thing is records to know look you love it will be critical book goes that's come in and there's nothing you can do about it rationality deal. I guess probably the wrong person. Who do you don't miss the and finally got some good pitches and then made some nutty how this got a little place so. To get this whole roll into my cute couple never batted it needn't pain medications instead. Yeah they had the it was the one who blow that was the VA health care center they refer to it can be land when I was one up and one that. Minnesota yeah I think. Let me ask you one last question rainy for we let you go in this got nothing to really do with the health care thing may just regarding some other things that were in the news about it VA health care sinner and it the West Palm Beach, Florida. Did you when you were at the one you said you wrote an Asheville did you notice if they had a picture. The the new president new commander in chief up in the facility yet. I've always wondered don't you wait until the mighty Hendrick can't really answer that question went to a sad entered certain at this very posh people do but now I wouldn't what might government so. Okay yeah. Yeah I meet meet you. The late birdies per remarked on the open net but as they obviously have made the VA result nobody United States but for an. Ten years I had to go and one they would leave the warning that it will go and I had to do a real good job psyche pyramid there. Yeah you're not the first yet another first for exactly to say that a rainy we appreciate account rather and I hope things will improve Fauria and thank you for colonists and shared that info we appreciate it. The you know that that's one of those things as wide nets that gay cast yes for again a typical government response say a shotgun. Applied to to a situation where neither you need a rifle. And and and gas like light rain Indian in so many others with him like you were saying in its effect in the civilian part of the the inaudible care act obamacare that his company and affecting you know even treatment your mom is getting sent. It's it's just in its crazy dead. Something. Like this OP lead epidemic. And I'm perfectly comfortable calm at that because it's it's a matter yeah I mean there there's people who DN an end. I think the VA to some degree overall has a large part to play in the reasoned that has got to be so prolific is because like Candy Land yeah. If you've got a problem. Rather than fix the root cause yet we're just gonna masked the simpler just gonna at all has dealt. Crazy. You know and it's it is sad that and a reason he would asking the question of him about the if he hadn't noticed that there was a yeah. The official portrait in the air. There is of eight Textron in her own texture confirm that this audience man. Tell you as odds and is Candy Land I was actually yesterday in both trump and show and pick for properly does well good good thank you texture we I mean it was the story was covered. I we're tenacity on a couple places I think Assad on the daily caller. That. A guy that is a congressmen and also a an army veteran I believe was going to the VA hospital they're West Palm Beach winning and then no poetry yet. So he's a congressman he uses his resource losing gets a portrait of both president trump and VA sank shall can. They take him and they put them up and other veterans or their participating hanging these portraits. And then stacked caper takes them down using the excuse well well these these are these are not officials basically. It's not good enough coming from a US congress not a fish is the same thing is if you and I went in the and hung up a Pink Floyd poster it's got to come down absolutely it does end and stuff it's. And the bureaucracy in the people that think. What we need is a single Payer health care system in this country what we need is government run health care that's fair and everybody gets. Look at these BA stories or listen to jazz like reindeer read this stuff that were posted that on our FaceBook page in the we're talking about here that. Is what it would be like maybe even worse this. Yeah. Probably where there who wouldn't be come back we got one more one more quick segment will touch on. General Mattis. And climate change. Can you know this is an interest income excellent service one a 63 Debbie Doherty would check in general we are back. I welcome back Freddy final segment of our number one a salute to service this post saint patty's day Saturday John church at Porter here will be glad to be here glad to be anywhere it yet and my age I'm glad to be anywhere and we got the story and we're we're entity shorter times and act. I just don't want general Mattis a segment man show and I'm here to beat me up in the parking lots. They're expensive stuff in the knees but some none of not fake news maybe but certainly some inaccurate spin on some statements general Mattis made about. Klein the climate weather and stuff like that. And people trying to saucy look he's at odds with the administration and he believes so we're gonna we're gonna hold that to our liberties if you wanna hear about. May you know an African model that are out there on the left. Progressives though who lived hard entertainers that would dislike we'd he has somebody was in the knees in the day for coming we we need and you know hopefully trampled to meet god saying basically opening statements in the UOP guy or something happens.
