Welcome back our number two salute to service this can overcast cloudy February 18 Jon and shut glad to be with you. He hit that read that man my nobody I know it's hard for him overcast days never turn me on Johnson. There's something about the clouds and her next. You don't you're a poet and no amount trance. Are they and you know. But you print purple socks or some today feel uninspired I don't know when it rains on us and I got a purple rain that we do have a little bit gene not treating gunfire that rather let her rip. I can't imagine prance ever fire and some automatic weapons Manning I was tonight and had a then. Backing him up grace and am against them while the foxhole. All right this one of these cool stories I always like sharing something about Leo World War II air veterans will Ortiz the greatest generation. A gang and this guy just. Fantastic 96 years old Bob brothel Hearst and Tampa Florida 51 pilot. Had to take Iraq may India's main he got to take a ride in one of those really cold. Where they modify the 51 mustangs to be at two seater. And I think when I come to town here and it's it's not that I and we early in Iraq I everything better and that anyway what do they offer military just in this. Opponent but he got to ride in line got taken out 96 years old least they're trying to help him in there he's like quoting him I don't bend my legs like I used to gentleman he said as he boarded the plane. You think I'm calm but I'm not I'm stand in about 35 feet up in the air raiding again. And they took this all got man. Did barrel rolls some loops and everything and now when he landing got out said that just made me feel right at home might put your car in the garage. You do it without thinking hey you know he's in the picture here he's. Green in and wave and have a cockpit given the thumbs up as they're doing a flyby of the crown there. Into how cool is that especially and the yen and agony that throw that thing around like he volleys yeah car lot now. I mean this is really in steam and you know the that these old timers get to do that type of thing and even when the big has come here to Greeneville. And with the the B seventeen B 24. The FDA and make them any and that must staying in they've taken out some local vets we were out there a year ago when they did that. And some of the old guys they were rolling out there and we got a top two on and it's just really neat experience for them and it's it's great. When they're still. I is capturing 96 years young and healthy enough to get back in a 51. And do a few barrel rolls in loops and Landon live detail its. I'm not even healthy enough to get the pieces. 96 years old at 84. Yeah. Now here's a stupid story today. This I saw this one and in my eyes rolled so hard that I think I pulled a muscle in my groin. This is from. Website called up rocks. There is a movement. Hash tag no more black targets. And what they're doing is they wanna get rid of all the silhouette targets because they're black and white background. And it somehow is causing. Especially those in law enforcement profession become desensitized. Two shooting at things that are. Dork yeah especially against the white background. And they're taking these these targets B five to ours I think there held. And now does that apply this as their scientific research led them understand that that applies to all officers for their their Asian African American. Hispanic or does it only affect the white people it does and our general officers you know you know it doesn't matter and Desiree I'd as a matter to them that. A lot of the targets that. Leos are using now on the ranges are photo realist realistic. It's I. Listen and I shot on target stay in it and yeah this is old is this is this has been going on for the last twenty years and then recently more recently with in the last ten years there was a big. Saying. A lot of the targets that we shot on word. Photo realistic but it would be like a pregnant woman pointing a gun at you. Yeah or would be a child pointing a gun at you in the big you know big sell my god yes like every day in my neighbor for real. But there they're teaching people are teaching these cops stated today that it's OK to shoot pregnant women hurts okayed issued shoot children and it's not bad at all it's not teaching you that abolished its instructing you on how to look for a threat because of thrift and come from anywhere yet hey it doesn't matter just made. Here's something and from that two out and Orville California area the big. The big damn story go on salt water or that and I ally and man hoping that they can stave off some serious disaster out there but there is a veteran out there. Mike Pomeroy. Out in Yuba City area. Had to evacuate as one of those things hey just get what you need for a couple of days you'd get in the bag in and get out right before you know this this thing could break at any time. Well he is a Vietnam veteran got a purple heart and some other metals like don't say which linesmen they were medals for valor so I don't know maybe silver star bronze star. Now sometimes ask Michael Patten. Somebody of course the scum bag Erie of some knows no bounds so of course there's a mandatory evacuation. People are getting the heck out away. So enroll some peace and they stole some and his wife to everything like that and into that has metals. Now they left the course the citations actual printed document paper citations matter I I because they you know because we're now waiting negotiate and get your replacements easy method still just the feeling of being violated that somebody broken endear dominate and they stole his medals. And and he said he made as a really talk much about his experience might and he was a combat medic over the and he did some life saving. If it I'm sure more than once. Over there and these were his medals and he was only imports grandsons and then some snapper and broke in his home and stole him. So hopefully out there. Once this. Orville damn thing comes down somebody will find these scum bag who did this. And he'll get his medal match metals back and they'll get what's coming to. Well there without a doubt on the pawnshops somewhere yeah if if you know my my experience proves out to be true. Somebody's gonna take those to a pawnshop yen in debt they'll recover and I hope I hope now lost forever. If you're a little bit this sad news. Al Lakewood Colorado Edward tipper will work to paratrooper who's portrayed in the HBO series band of Brothers passed away at 95 years old on the 1 February. Looks like he died at home. But he was a member DC company part of a 101 airborne division parachuted in France on. And he was actually care Korean man you are. Yesterday he was one of the ones it was energy he's seen the news stories you know in the picture of him I mean you'd recognize his face from the group of veterans that they actually spoke to they were putting that the mini series together. And much. Great as in movies when they had other documentaries they did for the History Channel they interviewed has cast yet edges so crushes your skull partners all your shoulder and I mean you see these guys and and here they are 1980s and then they're ninety's and they're talking about this stuff in EC these guys. The look in their faces and in tears Welling up in their eyes that that the other 89 Nissan years old they're telling this. It's yesterday. It is it generally is Manning you've got to look at those guys mandated I mean they're harder woodpecker lips yet those those dudes did stuff in and you know some when you talk about later on the show but they came back and in it was blue button for them to talk about. It was weakness for them talking about what they experienced in many album wouldn't so went to see those guys. Get emotional like yeah. It rips my heart so it's it's tough to watch man tough to watch and another little wal wart to tidbit and I saw this and thought I love it love it. I mean have been in the history net. A youth vote the wreck of U 581 was found off the Azores and a depth of 2953. Feet near the coast this island mayor Pico island. And these gas it's. Still fairly intact and these underwater aggregate architect but archaeology at architect and order argued archaeologist cast. Found this and this was sunk in 1942. About British destroyer HMS Wes got. And what's interesting about this is the subway and down but all that four guys. Got off the youth vote. And survive in one and the most M word taken prisoner and held as PO devastated the war. Except for one of one of the sub's officers this guy named Walter sit sit tech got swam for four miles. Reached Pico island somehow. Made his way from that little island back to German equal everybody else was captured man. I mean there has got to the at least they made for TV movie in that story somewhere man for a multi sounder researcher I kept a diary and I guess that would be a cool semi regardless what side of the war he was down that's that's a story a fascinating human interest story yeah. Unbelievable yeah well do we everything we had. Word of your save in the snappy Smith story so vastly in this is one thing today and Matt have you heard of snappy Smith in an end. Check asked me before the show as I want of course you have heard it's Lovie Smith I mean you might as but it it's a difference snuff he Smith and it's a Zack looks darn serious heavy stories that we talk about you shared this with me before the show today in a site. Really cool well and in a bit light hearted is so this limit the story of the real deal smoky Smith. We'll hold that for the in the the in the coming up into the show what we've got next so this Saudi generous conversation. Dario Anderson yes there was just a court decision handed down the other day in her right one yeah the right one in my opinion as well and we'll talk about that when we come back. After this obscene profit. Time now you're listening slows service won a 63 derby or do you check in John. Which are arguing pants on because you're gonna need them. Welcome back excellent service a lot of local 163 WORT. Jon and chat columnists have both of us here and believe it or not just somebody as sir or ma'am whoever is vintage. We do. Have compassion for veterans embodies kind of upset over the at the sit wrapped and the the the issue over retirement some of the veterans out there that seem to have a since the autonomy kind of referring to the example where these vets went to John McCain's office. And without an appointment without any pre scheduling or anything else and demanded be seeing market scene they occupied. His office and they were. Arrested. And then they were pushing Lucy he won't Todd some veterans marlin which again. Twisting. And turning a situation into something it wasn't and it'll sit wrap check in about you know there's this sense sometimes of veteran entitlement things like that and for businesses that offer veterans discounts that's great private businesses wanna do that. If you qualify for discounts and things like day that we were just talking about how with us. You know it's not something I go into our chat we go to a store and were purchasing something and we say hey by the way do you have a better since we it would. Some people do that and if you do that as school. Is just not us. You know and and we've talked about that. With the Chile's luncheon thing and and some other stuff they admitted as far as yet we fully realize. Text her a lot of our Brothers and sisters he mentioned summer missing pieces and parts will we fully realized some of them. Don't come home. NF taken peopled the mash Sheen it's. Where the blood and that. Urine and feces and stuck his stick. Because people lay in the are injured. Stuff that is etched in my mind forever. And I've also had the experience of sitting with the brother in arms. As he was dying. And unable. To feed himself. And I fed him and and a chuck has done similar things in his service and no it's not that we. Not trying to blood to our own points here but it's not world without compassion into like that thank you just missed the point. In the point being generated from the story that was dealing with these guys saying just because were veterans. Senator McCain hacks to see us in if he doesn't were insulted and and I think anybody that listens to the show more than once. Would know how we feel about that that's what we're here that's what we were interested in applying. To be considered. To host this show. When intercom upstate decided they were gonna do it so. Sorry if this one got Sheila twisted around the axle out there and let the maybe you wanna replay the podcasts and listen. Again the white checks said during a the cigarette because you know we fully appreciate the responsibility. That we have having this this bully pulpit having this opportunity. To speak to and about the communities that week here very much about and why do we care very much about them because we are at him. And that's a lot of say about that moment on. You know Terry much here yeah well okay we'll assess what chairman otherwise you're just six rather Terry Anderson the big case that down. Started out the news back in 2015. And it is just one of these things again who. Where. Error. Some people expecting more from our law enforcement officers. The man is is really reasonable attacking Christmas Eve Tony fifteen. Calls are made to the law enforcement center here in Greenville more than one more than one multiple people phone to the law enforcement sinner to 911 saint. We live in this area we're hearing gunshots then my okay thank you dispatcher gets another call hi I live in this area baba block I'm hearing gunfire. Police units are dispatched. I believe the police when they got they are reported that they want are more of them. Actually even hurt. The the some actual gunfire and so there it's in the evening late at night Christmas Eve. Multiple citizens called in reporting gunfire officers at least one of these responding officers hears the gunfire themselves. Then there's a rather large. Gentleman adult male. Walking in the area so obviously. A late at night gunshots you gonna speak to some somebody you're seeing now. The police officers did that they go they try to engage. And he has some basic questions with this guy hi stop come here please this rather large male individual. Turns walks away starts walking labor's lead they even said running and then. Puts his hands in his pockets. It's late at night large. Male. Reports of gunfire. The police officers taste. And they. Handcuffed him the gentleman's of the size that it took three payers are paying cuts to. Actually do it to get his hands and Iran is is girth and everything he's big boy big gap big Boeing. And. Ends up that the the the gentleman is he he's autistic. And well his mother and then some other attorneys CA get involved and want to ask is attorneys as early. This is just not right and something's gotta be done about this and even until one point. Departed the the paperwork applied on the lawsuit was this. Calls for an action for a determination of appropriate. Monetary damages on behalf of the plane if aria Eugene Anderson. And so it goes to court finally gets to court this week. And the federal court federal court yet federal court in the jury deliberated for about 75 minutes and hence. Is I know these officers didn't violate. Any procedures this list. The reasonable. And so there you again and this could have been something man when this was like OK this is coming up this is going to court I'm Mike. Hold on this this could either and go either way there's this can go like it did go. Or. This could get ugly and we can't have the outside her social justice warrior types and activists coming here and really start at the stink and downtown hash tag yet angering. So. Chuck. So. As it turns out. What we've got here is in adult. Who is out it somewhere between midnight 2 AM I'm self. The guy's got two grand means. That this is not the first encountered agreeable place and had with this gentleman. And in past experiences he's also had large amounts of cash and now he he. He's uncooperative. He's non compliant he runs away from the police who were investigating shots fired call and he's the only person out in the area which gives them reasonable marketable suspicion. To step out have a conversation with this guy under Terry yet. He runs away. Now now you've got a situation right this guy's running he's got his hands in his pocket I have not only to have a reasonable are capable suspicion that a crime has been Hersh about be committed. And this person may or may not be the person who committed it but he may also be armed and giving the the nature of the call and what he's doing and putting his hands and podcasters waist band. Sure he got taste yeah. Well all of a sudden his mom screaming he's autistic he's autistic OK fair enough he's autistic I understand that I sympathize with that. What is he doing out at 2 o'clock in morning and that's something that's come up now now ST SA has been referred to DSC SS is gonna look and look into that. Because I got a sneaking suspicion that there's more going on here and then then then just he's out roaming around 2 o'clock in the morning IE where. Why does he had 2000 dollars in cash. And why you see. I would say commonly had 2000 dollars in cash and oil on more than one occasion. If not commonly. More than one occasion I said when this case first. The first occurred and of course he was you know they beg the police picked him he was held for just a business like idea obviously. Tuesday's special needs issue here and there you go year released now charges. Given. The situation and what has. Then occurring for law enforcement officers from coast to coast northeast in south and west in this country for quite awhile now. I think is his my father and friends family people there are concerned about the care of mister Anderson ought to be. Glad that all that happened was. He got taste well why they only care about him after he gets into the situation why did they care about him enough to keep an eye on and yet so it wasn't on it why don't you put a key deadbolt goma endorse always knocks out it too simple solutions from simple solutions and I think and I think why goes back to this part of the the law suit the tax from at this copied in this fox Carolina news article quoting from that. This is an action for a determination of appropriate monetary damages on behalf of the plane so might look at for money bore consider the counting I consider the city seconds into the state. Money. And yep gets gets something that now the other thing that she brought up is in there has been of late. Within the last year or so maybe longer. A call for more mental health training for law enforcement officers and you know I think that there is a place for that act as well I think that the the shooting was that was the incident in Florida whether it was in the Miami Dade area where it was is this was during daylight hours and the artistic gentleman was there in my street trader slim with a trained GAAP and our little car and one of the counselors was late in the air beside him in laid down complied in peak in he's hollering. Hi I'm mr. so and so from the group calmed down the street his name is. What do any and he's autistic he's autistic I'm from down the street on the counselor about over and over. And then but the one numb skull. I air rifle yet and mixed and yeah and that's been dealt with down layers so. Is is it a valid issue to say of course there needs to be some more training obviously I think that's a valid issue you can't ever stop training. Now but. Effort for this case they again kudos to the members of the jury. You know I think rendering 88 just an invalid. Good decision. And you know it is going back to the training issue just briefly. In a situation like we saw in Florida is perfectly reasonable to be able to assess that situation because you have what time yet you have that commodity. And you can say all right we've got time to look at the situation. And say okay. Here's here's what's unfolding in front of us yeah it is like I was sitting yes sitting sit in the middle of the street they would send the totality of the circumstances. In a situation. Like. What you're dealing with here with mr. Anderson Anderson. There's no time yet I don't have time as uniformed patrol officer. To make a diagnosis. In a matter of seconds before I get shot in the fray yes because it's dark is slated knock out shots have been fired back at reported by multiple people in here is a large individual and he's reaching in his pocket in his waist es he's reaching for something. Can be basic candy could be as house keys could be a gun. You don't you know if we run this out to. You know a crazy direction but let's save it. Yelled they took the time to try and diagnosis guy and a well you know we need to call on the mental health guys that's on the platoon and have him take a look at this while we're chasing him. In the guy runs and somebody's house and you've got to barricaded suspect or not you've got a situation where rushers somebody's house and he does have a gun and he's killed a bunch of people. Then who's on the hook for that yet the police department because they didn't do their job in stopping this guy. It was a comment one of these stories and I were were hit not got to get a break that how innocent people in Communist rule we need to expect more from our office when is this a site. Come on you for somebody for people coming on economic sign up for one of these Greenville county sheriff's office rattle box. Yeah I'm gonna see it firsthand yes it first hand and then tell me. They should be able to split second diagnose Ferraro's oil that is the greatest show on her attention when we come back what do we guy here. You know what do the the snuff Eastman sort absolutely since the start swarming in those six or WORD wood chuck and John. We'll be right back with a little entertainment. Welcome back salute to service may have showtime has passed and fast and John and Jack and just so everybody is in the now after the last electronics world did with the Dexter. And so all's well that ends well. Now this. Little story can I come from some of the other stuff we thought this is just a good. Slightly humorous. Story and and again just missed the real snappy Smith if I had no idea who do I I was thinking and you know the cartoon. At that and if those of us like. John and myself that are you know I guess kind of intimately familiar with history to some degree or another stuffy Smith is something we recognize immediately as a cartoon yet and it was about kind of a ne'er do well yeah yeah and iron to us again like fast term and hairdo and argue well for good so as it turns out. There there is an actual. So nothing Smith as first name obviously wasn't snubsie. But. Brad about 1942. Smith. Hello found himself in court facing a judge because he wasn't paying child support because he was chizik and a guy. And the judge says well look mr. Schmidt you can either go to jail or you can go to the army. And he said well going to the army. Because I don't wanna go to jail addition to the army in and he finds himself at 31 years old one you know grandpa yeah out there and he doesn't like the idea that there's a bunch of kids ten years younger than him telling what to do so he looks for the fastest way to get promoted. Which at the time was aerial Gunner that's right so he fast track Macau's. Death rate was like 50% your salary amongst those guys self. The distance self into the school he gets through it and finds himself going over to Europe and getting put on a B seventeen I would imagine with the eighth air force. But he's really just an awful deed I mean he's just not a good guy and all and and he was he was. Poisonous to the point that nobody wanted to fly with him. They didn't want this down their Caruso the CEO would have to come out and say look if you're flying with Smith today Smith had to be when your gunners. Well he gets on a he it well he is. Crew was ordered to taking money's a Bolter Geithner the on May seventeenth so he's a little so he's a little that little wiry guy yeah. He he gets on this mission and animal a McKenna pare phrase a little bit but as you heard me his dissent from the clouds they were met by a welcoming party German fighters and intense antiaircraft fire. This bomber was instantly hit enemy fire to the plane's fuel tanks causing massive fire to erupt in the middle fuse logic communication system went down oxygen system was destroyed. In the power dismiss ball turret was knocked out. With fire raging three to crew members decided to bail out they parachuted over the channel never to be seen or heard from again. Step on the other hand leptin action. He tended the wounded crew is a pals attempted to navigate the plane home however German fighters were still rattling the plane with bullets in the fire continue to rage threatening to not fuselage. They were a long way from home and Smith spent the next ninety minutes treating the wounded Manning the machine gun and fighting the fire. Temperature in the plane got so high that that the extra ammo begin to cut costs we start throw an ammunition out and everything else it wouldn't sign for bolted down. When the fire extension extinguishers were empty Smith dostum protective clothing and attack the fire by hand. His plane finally approached englishman to put the fire out in part you're coordinating on it. I mean you got to do what you gotta play IA you take a whiz when you have to Europe so they land on the first available airfield the airplane broke in half upon touching down somehow they'd made it. And it made it no man they dubbed snubsie. Now found itself unlikely hero. Long story short. Smith gets awarded him the medal mark his personality. Is first in the next day was busted down to private. Instead to work on clerical job because he was just so disagreeable I was just that disagreeable now he. He was sent home eventually for operate what they call at the time operational fatigue yet. Which is completely interest. There is occupation. But yeah he he was. Literally present the medal medal of honor by the secretary of war which. You know James Madison wells was Davis given death while on a day he had been assigned KP duty are. And I usually isn't a rank to private with the clerical job far from the skies were here in the nation's highest military honor he lived until 1984 later as an aren't Arlington national cemetery is a war hero. With whom no one wanted to fly his actions on that fateful day in May of 1942 year old or will. Forever remain noted as a real display of inexplicable courage obnoxious personality or not. While it you know it is just you know sometimes you wonder about like the Kilroy was here yeah story behind that happened stuffy Smith. Net story behind that now we know she's a heart warming story. It was Kirk. Yes that's included directly compete on a fire. A man won the medal honoring got busted to private that's in LA again as all of that effort you you never know what you're gonna hear or what she might learn about tuning in to the salute to serve Asia and it's just one of the many things. That makes is showing up here on Saturdays. And I've. Will the size of their pay in meted. And whether any of it's useful or not not a hit to remain in Louisiana Maine on jeopardy yeah in one category. Yeah and military BASF affect. May well we got to take one more break and then we'll be back for the final segment may wrap this thing gyroscope in into it I guess what would have been as is I'm just committees and. The Pope says one thing the UN says another confuse yellow trying to hash this out and our guys Fareed just before we go home slowed surged 1063 WORD wood chuck and John. Stay tuned because we love you. Always say it. Only seven stash. Man what are they say in that prison imprisoned could get it back probably not probably not. Hello salute service John Judd Bagley for one last segment before today show is in the can and I can't say man it's it's a crazy world out there in a region. The news and trying to keep up with things did some days is to be a little much. And we find ourselves with the Pope in the UN and odds yeah and ever thought. Early in the week about midweek as I see this article come up and again with terrorism national security stuff I see a headline related to Adam okay maybe I should read it checked that out anyway. Us from the UN. According to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. The reason that we have terrorism Islamic terrorism radical Islamic terrorism whatever you know for easy prefer. Is because of Islam phobia. Of course is it's not anything is you know here unions had got do do these as that is it is it's nothing to do the trust is 'cause. Some people have according to him I guess an unreasonable fear. That's the term Islamic phobia. And that's why I'm scared if you don't you're scares me what my goodness instead of doing some of the to alleviate that I'm gonna Kutcher had a lot of catcher and operate highlight yet exactly. So your children into sex slave your sons and my dad and so that's coming from the the UN. Secretary General Antonio Gates there is some might allocate that doesn't make Ellis as I think there's some flaws with that logic. Yesterday. We wrap up the week. The Pope Pope Francis who poppy. Comes out incest. A again I'm Muslim terrorism does not exist quoting the Pope Muslim terrorism does not exist in an impassioned address Friday. Pope Francis denied the existence of Islamic terrorism while simultaneously. In asserting that the geek ecological crisis global warming climate change on that was. Very Rio Crist quoting him Christian terrorism does not exist Jewish terrorism does not exist and Muslim terrorism does not exist they do not exist. Says the Pope now. You know in that context. I can I can get my hands around what he's saying Gant in that context. If he's saying that. People love of the leg take what is named it that blew up the Olympics let's say clowns named the blew up the Olympics both. Out who they said go away was Rudolph what are probably air ground and are afraid you know gap all of it was over. What abortion cling to whatever whatever. Well Ali you know the door open to the Christians they as a whole for gonna put that on hold just about neck yeah I guy's not a real Christian. So that in fact would would necessarily make what he did not Christian terrorism. So if you if you. If your faith or the faith you ascribe to. Disavows what you're doing as not being real. Is bomber not real Judy ism are not real christianity that do you think that he's got a point when he is like. Yeah you're not talking about a dozen guys out there committing atrocities in the name of Islam now China hundreds of thousands. In an unwillingness to admit that several millions that. Support that surely listen I I I agree. That. Yeah I mean I only moral leader says they don't exist the other world leader says. Willits very violent and and doing what they do because. You have fears that it. The UN is typically full of garbage yeah well as we see an end it. I think what the Pope this is saying. If I'm if I'm putting this together in my head properly is that it's not really Islamic terrorism is mainstream Islam has disavowed these people now the problem is. We know that's not the cat's not yet. We know bit. Upwards of 67%. I think are fine yet with what's going. Who's our surveys done by. How. Yeah old people's. I don't know maybe the Pope needs to upgrade is cable package or something there at the Vatican today again a couple of additional news channels are I think he's seen and I knew he has I think he's being naive I think that what he's what he's trying to it to say. I don't think it's unreasonable. From Ford was trying to say this just lost in translation. Depending on you know what language he was speaking at the time is like and like we said here and other shows have said here. Are all. Muslims terrorist absolute now they're not no absolutely not. It seems though that. The it was at ninety class by not EU. Three to 95%. Over the last couple years of terrorist acts and being committed by the rifle on deny employment that's undeniable and an added that'd be like people saying oh. Well that the mayor Rudolph a guy you know Christians approve of blowing up abortion clinics will Wright no no we don't set. Yes I get where the Pope was Cohen is just didn't want to work. Every week now. If that's the election where an upside has just raised an upside down world trial is kind of the point. I was on a mate Bob bring in the two stories this just how easy because not everybody spends as much time. Digging through these stories and sifting. Beyond they have us because me and that that feature that vein on the Saudi your headphones and big time is the headline click mate stuff and people don't recall they don't you article in its in its about.
